Climb the Tower and Stop the Pendulum
To ring the bell in That Rings a Bell, follow the star, rope, gear, asteroid, clock and moon clues upward, then solve the season box and translate the final clock's bell sequence. Use the Shears to stop the pendulum before climbing its ladder to the upper clock.
Timed play gives you 25 minutes for this room. Keep track of which ladder or lift each puzzle opens as you climb. Read the clue paragraph for a nudge, then use the steps beneath it when you want the exact solution.
Free the Rope and Identify the Constellation
The colored lock on the yellow rope spool points you toward the hanging stars. Count each star's points in the lock's color order. Once the rope is free, the wall symbols tell you how to create a constellation that makes sense through the telescope.
- Thread the rope through the handles matching the wall's four symbols, following their order from top to bottom.
- Look through the telescope at the back of the room to see the rope outline that matches the camel constellation.
- Enter CAMEL on the letter lock to expose the ladder lever.
- Pull the exposed lever to lower the ladder leading onward.
- Climb the lowered ladder to reach the floor with the missing gears.
Restore the Gears and Collect the Shears
The wall mechanism needs its missing gears before its arrow markings form a readable route. That route supplies the directional lock across from the gear wall. Beyond the resulting ladder, the telescope's overlapping shapes determine the asteroid model's arrangement.
- Collect the Small Gear beneath the New Moon symbol for the wall mechanism.
- Collect the Medium Gear hidden behind the elevator.
- Collect the Large Gear to the right of the locked chest with five clock faces.
- Install the three gears on the wall mechanism near the elevator to complete the setup.
- Rotate the gears until their arrow markings join into a continuous route.
- Enter right, down, up, left, right, down on the directional lock across from the gear wall to release another ladder.
- Climb the newly released ladder to reach the telescope and asteroid model.
- Inspect the telescope's overlapping shapes to establish their order from bottom to top.
- Set the model from left to right to square, hexagon, circle, triangle, pentagon, opening the Shears compartment.
- Take the Shears from the opened compartment for the rope farther up the tower.
- Return down the ladder to the floor containing the clock chest and elevator.
Decode the Clock Chest and Reveal the Moon Letters
The arrows behind the clock chest point toward the Cipher Table. Its hour columns and minute rows turn the displayed times into letters. The item inside the chest then reveals another set of letters beside the purple moon symbols, ordered from new to full.
- Climb the boxes behind the clock chest along the upward arrows to reach the statue.
- Take the Cipher Table from the statue's hand to obtain the clock-decoding key.
- Return to the chest's lock to apply the Cipher Table to its clock faces.
- Decode the clocks from left to right: 9:30 gives L, 12:45 gives U, 6:45 gives N, 3:00 gives A and 9:15 gives R.
- Enter LUNAR into the chest lock to open it.
- Collect the Moonlight from the chest to reveal the hidden moon-symbol letters.
- Carry the Moonlight close to the purple moon symbols around the floor to expose their letters.
- Read the revealed letters from the dark New Moon through to the Full Moon to spell ECLIPSE.
- Enter ECLIPSE beside the elevator to unlock its lever.
Stop the Pendulum Before Taking Its Ladder
The route forward uses the ladder on the stopped pendulum. Cutting its rope makes that ladder usable. After reaching the rope upstairs, return in the lift to approach the ladder from below.
- Pull the elevator lever to ride upward to the pendulum rope.
- Cut the pendulum rope with the Shears to stop its movement.
- Ride the elevator back down to reach the stopped pendulum's ladder.
- Climb the pendulum ladder to reach the upper sun box and final clock mechanism.
Set the Season Box to Obtain the Lens
Each side of the box combines a season picture with a time of day. The large mechanisms around the room show the sun's distance for each season, while the panel's time determines its angle. Count arcs outward from the center, using the W and E markings to orient left and right.
- Set SUNRISE, showing spring blossoms, to medium distance on the second arc with the sun pointing right toward E.
- Set AFTERNOON, showing summer greenery, to long distance on the third arc with the sun pointing upper left.
- Set SUNSET, showing autumn leaves, to medium distance on the second arc with the sun pointing left toward W.
- Set NOON, showing winter snow, to short distance on the innermost arc with the sun pointing straight up.
- Collect the Lens from the box after the matching panels open it.
Translate the Clock Clue and Ring the Final Bell
The instruction below the clock gives the sequence 9795639. You are viewing the clock from inside the tower, so its outward-facing Roman numerals appear reversed. Use their outward-facing values when positioning the hand; with the Lens installed, the mechanism's shadow identifies a letter on the sun dial.
- Place the Lens on the large clock mechanism to enable the shadow-letter reading.
- Move the clock hand through 9, 7, 9, 5, 6, 3, 9 to read A, C, A, E, D, G, A.
- Pull the bell ropes in the order A, C, A, E, D, G, A to lower the large bell.
- Ring the lowered large bell to complete That Rings a Bell.
