Find the Book Beyond the Courtyard
A Book of Lockpicks is behind glass in the ground-floor bookstore beyond the main tower’s courtyard. Examine the author’s name on its cover: the letters conceal directional arrows for the display lock.
Read the Author’s Name as a Visual Clue
The author’s name supplies the directions needed to open this book’s display. Look closely at the shapes concealed in the lettering rather than trying to turn the name into a word password. Copy the arrows you identify before using the directional lock, then compare your reading with the solution below if you need it.
Unlock the Display and Purchase the Book
- Go through the main tower’s courtyard to the ground-floor bookstore, where the book is displayed behind glass.
- Examine the author’s name on A Book of Lockpicks to find the concealed directional arrows.
- Enter up → left → up → down → left → up → down on the display’s directional lock to unlock access to the book.
- Purchase A Book of Lockpicks from the unlocked display to obtain the required book.
What the Book Is Used For
Buying A Book of Lockpicks is part of Better Book It!, the Chapter 1 assignment requiring three book purchases. The relevant interaction is purchasing the book after unlocking its display. It is a required course book, not a reusable lockpicking tool to equip at other locks.
If Unlocking the Glass Has Not Finished the Purchase
Opening the display and purchasing its contents are separate actions. Your completion check for obtaining this book is the successful purchase, so finish that interaction after entering the arrows. Better Book It! also requires the other book purchases; obtaining A Book of Lockpicks alone does not complete the whole shopping assignment.
If you need more Escape Bucks, complete student side tasks or look for loose money around campus. Those side puzzles are untimed and provide money for purchases. Return to the book display when you can finish buying the book.
